The managing director of YouTube in EMEA Emerging Markets, Alex Okosi, has been hired by Google as the managing director of Google in Africa.
Google revealed in a statement on Tuesday that Okosi will be in charge of its activities in Africa, including initiatives to support the development of the continent’s economies and enterprises as well as enhancing access to the Web and offering resources to help the next billion users get more out of it.

“Alex is a seasoned leader with extensive knowledge of the media and technology sectors. He is passionate about leveraging technology to empower people and businesses and has a thorough knowledge of African nations, according to Meir Brand, vice president of Google’s EMEA Emerging Markets division.

Okosi is an accomplished leader in media, entertainment, and technology. He was the Executive Vice President and Managing Director of BET International and Viacom International Media Networks Africa before he joined YouTube. Okosi played a critical role in directing the growth and expansion of the platform across Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey in his most recent job at YouTube.

“I am excited at the prospect of leading Google’s team in Africa and the opportunity to be an even closer part of this diverse and dynamic region, which is so close to my heart,” stated Okosi. “I’m a firm believer in the potential for technology and, in particular, the internet, to improve people’s lives and to help individuals and businesses in Africa to thrive,” he declared.

With offices in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, Google has been doing business in Africa for more than ten years. Millions of Africans use the company’s goods and services on a daily basis.
