A newly appointed officer with the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office has been dismissed and faces serious criminal charges after allegedly attempting to smuggle narcotics into a correctional facility. The individual, identified as Amarachukwu W. Igwe, had only been with the department since July 2025. Her arrest on April 4 came following a proactive internal investigation that prevented the illegal substances from ever reaching the inmate population at the Alexandria Adult Detention Center.
According to law enforcement officials, the department’s internal investigations team uncovered a scheme where Igwe reportedly intended to deliver drugs to a specific prisoner. Due to the swift intervention of investigators, the plan was intercepted before the narcotics could breach the facility’s secure perimeter. Following her arrest, Igwe was processed at the Arlington County Detention Facility. She now faces several heavy charges, including conspiracy to deliver drugs to prisoners, the actual delivery of controlled substances to inmates, and possession of a Schedule III controlled substance.
In the wake of the incident, Sheriff Sean Casey moved quickly to terminate Igwe’s employment, reinforcing a strict stance on institutional integrity. The Sheriff made it clear that any breach of security or public trust would be met with immediate and severe consequences. “I have zero tolerance for actions that undermine the security of our facility,” Casey stated, emphasizing that those who violate their oath will face the full extent of the law.
The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing to determine if any other parties were involved in the smuggling attempt. This case serves as a stark reminder of the rigorous oversight required to maintain safety and order within the United States justice system.
