Governor Hyacinth Alia has firmly declared that no political figure, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has the power to determine his political future or that of the people of Benue State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The governor stressed that his bid for a second term would be decided strictly by his performance in office, credibility, and commitment to the people, expressing confidence that voters would assess his record fairly.
Alia’s position was communicated through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, in response to remarks by Titus Zam, who had suggested that Benue residents would look to Akume for direction in the 2027 polls.
Rejecting the claim, the governor maintained that the power to decide leadership rests solely with the electorate, not any individual or political “emperor.”
“What will determine direction for the 2027 general elections in Benue is purely performance and pedigree,” the statement read.
He further warned that leaders who have failed to deliver on their mandate or betrayed public trust would ultimately face the judgment of the people at the polls.
According to the governor, no single individual can dictate the outcome of an election, insisting that the people of Benue are politically aware and capable of making independent decisions.
Alia also reaffirmed his commitment to governance, stating that he remains focused on fulfilling his promises to the people, who, he said, are closely monitoring developments and will deliver their verdict when the time comes.
