Babatunji Wusu –
In reaction to the press conference that Labour Party candidate Peter Obi gave during the recently ended presidential election, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) issued a statement on Monday.
Peter Obi spoke at a global press conference on Monday, accusing the Supreme Court of betraying Nigerians’ faith in the legal system after the court’s decision to confirm President Bola Tinubu as the victor of the 2023 presidential contest.
The party applauded Obi’s choice to actively participate in opposition politics and urged him to be responsible and constructive in his criticism, according to a statement signed by Felix Morka, national press secretary for the party.
The APC claimed that Obi’s criticism of the Supreme Court, despite having previously benefited from its ruling, demonstrated his conceit and haughtiness.
“As someone who has profited from Supreme Court decisions regarding elections in the past, Obi’s biting criticism of the legal system simply serves to highlight his conceit and haughtiness. The APC released a statement saying, “The court was a beacon of democracy when it ruled in his favor earlier; now that the decisions are against him, the court has betrayed democracy.”
Remember that the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi filed challenges challenging President Tinubu’s election, which the Supreme Court rejected in October?
