Arsenal Confirm Saliba’s Extended Injury Lay-Off

Arsenal have confirmed that William Saliba will not undergo surgery after suffering a back injury, but the French defender is expected to spend an extended period in rehabilitation before returning to action.

The 25-year-old sustained the injury during his country’s 2-0 World Cup semi-final defeat, forcing him to leave the pitch before half-time. After carrying out detailed medical assessments, Arsenal announced that surgery was unnecessary and that William Saliba will instead begin a structured recovery programme under the club’s medical team.

In an official statement, the club said: “Extensive assessments have concluded that surgery is not recommended, but William should now commence a managed recovery program.”

The statement continued: “William’s rehabilitation will commence immediately, with continual management of his injury, and he is expected to be out of action for an extended period.”

The injury is a major concern for Arsenal as they prepare to defend their Premier League title. William Saliba has established himself as one of the club’s most dependable defenders and has played a vital role in the team’s recent success.

Manager Mikel Arteta will now have to adjust his defensive plans ahead of the new campaign, with the reigning champions set to begin their Premier League title defence against newly promoted Coventry on 21 August.

Although the club has not confirmed how long William Saliba will be unavailable, avoiding surgery is expected to improve his chances of making a successful return once his rehabilitation is complete.
