France Set to Unveil New National Team Coach

The French Football Federation (FFF) has confirmed that it will announce the new France head coach during a news conference on 28 July, with Zinedine Zidane widely expected to take over the national team.

Although the FFF did not mention Zinedine Zidane by name in its statement, the former France captain remains the clear favourite to succeed Didier Deschamps, whose successful spell as head coach came to an end after France finished fourth at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 54-year-old has long been linked with the position and has openly expressed his ambition to one day lead the French national team. If appointed, Zinedine Zidane will begin his first coaching role since leaving Real Madrid five years ago.

The appointment would see Zinedine Zidane follow former international teammates Laurent Blanc and Didier Deschamps, both of whom previously managed France. Deschamps took charge in 2012 and oversaw one of the most successful periods in the nation’s football history before stepping down after the recent World Cup campaign.

As a player, Zinedine Zidane enjoyed an outstanding international career, helping France win the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2000 UEFA European Championship. His coaching achievements are equally impressive despite managing only one club.

During two spells with Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane guided the Spanish giants to an unprecedented three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018, establishing himself as one of the most successful managers in modern football.

The upcoming announcement is expected to mark the beginning of a new era for France, with supporters eager to see whether Zinedine Zidane can build on the strong foundation left by Deschamps and lead the national team to future international success.
