AS Roma advanced to the Italian Cup quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over second-division club Genoa on Thursday, thanks to substitute Paulo Dybala’s goal.

Dybala came on at halftime and immediately changed the game, making Roma’s attack look more dangerous.

In the 64th minute, he collected a pass from Gianluca Mancini and weaved his way towards goal, beating several players before firing into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

In the first half, Roma’s only real scoring chance fell to Lorenzo Pellegrini, who hit the post.

In the quarterfinals, Roma will face either Serie A leader Napoli or bottom club Cremonese. On Tuesday, they will square off.

Fiorentina through

Fiorentina will face Torino in the next round after easily defeating Serie A struggler Sampdoria 1-0.

Torino eliminated Milan in extra time on Wednesday, despite playing 50 minutes with 10 men.

In the 25th minute, Antonn Barák scored the only goal of the game in Florence when Sampdoria failed to properly deal with a cross from the left by Aleksa Terzi.

Fiorentina’s Luka Jovi also had a goal ruled out for offside.

Samp’s night took a turn for the worse in stoppage time when defender Jeison Murillo was sent off for a second yellow card.
