Gunmen attacked the Jenuwa Nyifiye hamlet in Taraba State’s Takum Local Government Area on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of three persons and the injuries of numerous more.

The state’s police command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the report on Tuesday and stated that the shooters were likely to be Fulani militia members.

He claimed that the assailants opened fire on the neighborhood as some worshipers were leaving church services.

He claimed that during the incident, three persons died and numerous more were hurt. He claimed that eventually the attackers were repelled by military and police officers.

The raid resulted in the burning of several homes.

Godson Danlami, the community’s traditional leader, called the attack “very pathetic.” He then counseled the state government to work with security organizations to put an end to criminal activity in the neighborhood and the council as a whole.

Southern Taraba, particularly Takum, has made headlines in recent years due to attacks by alleged bandits and kidnappers. Additionally common in the area are fatal community classes.

Many criminal organizations, according to locals, are active in the area.
