Sister of the late Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, who tragically perished in a stampede during Asake’s concert in front of London’s Brixton Academy, Racheal Ikumelo has expressed her displeasure with the manner the musician has utilized Rebecca’s likeness without asking her family.
According to The Nation, pop artist Asake recently performed at the 02 Arena and paid tribute to those who passed away at Brixton Academy in December 2022 once more.
Asake’s outstanding performance at the 02 Arena in London, United Kingdom, made him the sixth Nigerian musician to sell out the venue.
Racheal criticized the singer’s tribute, calling it insensitive and saying she wishes he had spoken to them first.
“What a sorry excuse of a “tribute” from @asakemusik,” she remarked. You didn’t speak to a single member of my family after my sister lost her life at your performance, and since then. But you may play her footage at a second performance you host in London less than nine months later as a “tribute”? RIP to Gaby Hutchinson and my sister Rebecca Ikumelo.
Recall that on December 15, 2022, Rebecca Ikumelo lost her life as a result of a stampede at Asake’s concert at the Brixton O2 Academy in London, United Kingdom.

Asake expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family in a letter, saying he never anticipated such a thing would occur.
The news that Rebecca Ikumelo, who had been in a serious condition since Thursday, had regrettably died away, grieved him, he said.
“I send my deepest sympathies to her family at this difficult moment. Please remember to pray for her family. I’ve talked to them and will keep doing so. I’m in a state of utter grief and could never have imagined this occurring.
