By Eppe Franklyne| Atalanta have confirmed the departure of head coach Raffaele Palladino, ending his time at the Serie A club after less than a year in charge.
The 42-year-old leaves the Bergamo outfit after overseeing 39 matches. Despite guiding Atalanta to a seventh-place finish in Serie A, the club has decided to part ways with the manager following an inconsistent campaign.
Raffaele Palladino arrived in November to replace Ivan Juric, inheriting a side that was struggling near the lower end of the table. He managed to improve performances and stabilise results, helping the team climb the standings during the second half of the season. However, the club fell short of the standards set in previous years under long-serving former manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
The team’s European journey also ended in disappointment. Atalanta reached the last 16 of the Champions League, but suffered a crushing 10-2 aggregate defeat against Bayern Munich, bringing their continental campaign to an abrupt end.
While Raffaele Palladino succeeded in restoring some balance to the squad after a difficult start to the season, the overall results were not enough to secure his long-term future. The decision marks another significant change for a club aiming to remain competitive both domestically and in Europe.
Attention has already turned to potential successors. According to reports in the Italian media, experienced manager Maurizio Sarri has emerged as the leading candidate for the vacancy. The former Lazio, Juventus, and Chelsea boss recently left Lazio after both parties agreed to terminate his contract.
As Atalanta begin their search for a new direction, the club will hope its next appointment can build a stronger challenge in Serie A and improve its fortunes in European competition.
