Atletico Madrid have intensified their push to sign Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman after matching Fenerbahçe’s €40 million bid for the Atalanta forward.

The LaLiga giants are determined to secure Lookman’s signature in the January transfer window and have now agreed on a €40m package with the Serie A club, placing them firmly in the race for the Nigerian international.

Renowned football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed the development on Saturday night via X, revealing that Atletico have moved decisively while Fenerbahçe continue to face hurdles.

According to Romano, although Fenerbahçe tabled a similar offer, they are yet to finalise payment terms and provide the required bank guarantees. Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, are fully prepared to proceed.

Romano also noted that Atletico have improved their salary offer to Lookman, further strengthening their position as negotiations progress.

Lookman has been a standout performer for Atalanta, and Atletico’s aggressive move signals their intent to bolster their attacking options as the season reaches a crucial stage.
