By Babatunji Wusu| The Benue State Police Command has welcomed CP Cletus Nwadiogbu as its 44th Commissioner of Police, with the new police chief promising to strengthen security through intelligence-led policing and closer collaboration with communities across the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, CP Nwadiogbu officially assumed duty on June 4, 2026. The experienced officer hails from Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State and joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on June 10, 1994.

Throughout a policing career spanning more than 30 years, the new Benue Police Commissioner has served in several operational, investigative, administrative and command roles across the country. His academic achievements include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, alongside Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in International Relations from the University of Uyo. He is also a member of the Nigerian Political Science Association.

CP Nwadiogbu has completed several professional training programmes, including the Basic Police Mobile Force Course, Advanced Detective Course, Tactical Leadership and Command Course, and Strategic Leadership and Command Course.

His previous appointments include Divisional Police Officer, State Commander of the Federal Highway Patrol in Akwa Ibom State, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Cross River State, Area Commander in Okigwe, Imo State, and Deputy Commissioner of Police in Taraba State. He also served as one of the pioneer investigators at the ICPC in Abuja.

Before his posting to Benue, he worked as Deputy Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC) in Wudil, Kano State, where he contributed significantly to the training of cadet officers.

Speaking on his appointment, CP Nwadiogbu assured residents of his “commitment to improving security and safeguarding lives and property.” He further pledged “unwavering commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, community partnership and the protection of lives and property across the state.”

The new Benue Police Commissioner also urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and reliable information to improve public safety and strengthen security in Benue.
