Sen. Godswill Akpabio defeated Sen. Abdulaziz Yari to become the 10th President of the Senate.

After reviewing Senator Godswill Akpabi’s history, Senator Ali Ndume proposed the former Akwa Ibom governor.
Senator Olamilekan Solomon Yayi of Ogun state seconded Akpabio’s nomination.
Senator Ishaku Abbo also proposed Senator Abdul Aziz Yari as candidate for Senate President.
