President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the Senate to screen and confirm the nomination of former Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase (retd) to chair the Police Service Commission (PSC).
The President’s request was contained in a letter read on the Senate floor by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

Buhari stated that the appointment was made in accordance with Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

If confirmed by the Senate, Arase will succeed Musliu Smith, the former Chairman of the Commission, as the PSC’s substantive Chairman.

Buhari also forwarded two names for confirmation as Resident Electoral Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday (INEC).

Dr. Mahmuda Isah of Kebbi State, whose appointment is being renewed, and Dr. Mann Omobayi Alli of Ondo State, who is being appointed for the first time, are the new appointees.

Buhari also sent the Senate another communication in which he requested the appointment of five members to the Code of Conduct Bureau.

Murtala A. Kankia of Katsina State represents (North West), Zephaniah Ishaku Bulus of Nasarawa State represents (North Central), and Farouq Umar of Yobe State represents (North Central) (North East).

Others are Abdulsalam Taofiq Olawale of Ondo State, who will represent the South West, and Prof. Juwayriya Badamasiuy of Kogi State, who will represent the North (North Central).

The President urged the Senate to consider and confirm all appointees as quickly as possible.
