The government of Taraba State has expressed concern over the invasion of some communities in the state’s Bali and Gassol local government areas by livestock rustlers from Cameroon.

It claimed that the marauders’ activities have heightened tension and that local residents are suffering as a result of their assault.

At a briefing on Thursday, the state’s information commissioner, Lois Emmanuel, also shot off rumors of an interethnic conflict in the impacted towns.

According to the government’s findings, the issue is an instance of cattle rustling, she stated. Additional information made available to the authorities shows that cattle rustlers from the neighboring Cameroon have invaded many towns in the area and are posing a threat to lives and property, especially cattle owned by the native residents.

Naturally, local residents have voiced opposition to this construction. As a result, there are no conflicts or rivalries between different ethnic groups.

She emphasized that the two LGAs are among Taraba State’s most naturally endowed regions, particularly in terms of agricultural produce, in order to explain their significance to the state’s economic existence.

She added that the government’s attempts to suppress illegal activity have been honorable in order to protect innocent people.

She claimed, “It is for this reason that security forces strictly monitor the activity of vigilantes in controlling the illegal operations.

They are never permitted to work alone since doing so would enable them to impose their own laws. Government action in these sectors and the state generally will continue to emphasize and be centered on this kindness and civility.

Emmanuel also stated that the state government would continue to place a high premium on protecting the lives and property of both residents and visitors.
