A Sagamu Magistrate Court has adjourned the trial of 46-year-old Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of a Lexus SUV linked to the fatal road crash involving heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, which claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s friends.

The case, presided over by Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun, was postponed to February 25, 2026, following an application by the prosecution.

Kayode, who was arraigned on January 2, faces a four-count charge bordering on dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention resulting in bodily harm and property damage, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence. The charges are brought under Sections 5(1), 6(1), 7(1), and 10(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F:135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as applicable in Ogun State.

During proceedings, prosecuting counsel Richard Nigiwe informed the court that although the prosecution had lined up four witnesses, only three were present in court. He requested an adjournment to enable the duplication and transmission of the case file to the Ogun State Attorney-General through the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice, citing the interest of justice.

Defence counsel Abiodun Olalekan opposed the request, insisting on the defence’s readiness to proceed with the trial.

In her ruling, Magistrate Somefun upheld the prosecution’s application and adjourned the matter to February 25, 2026, for further hearing.
