The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Awka, where the Anambra State Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court is located, has ordered one Chinyere Ifesinachi, a defendant who is currently on trial, to pay one Miss Idimmachukwu the sum of N500,000.
The violent case violates the 2017 Anambra State of Nigeria laws prohibiting and protecting against violence against people.

In Onitsha, the state’s commercial hub, the defendant, Ifesinachi, 25, had physically abused Idimmachukwu, her domestic helper.

The victim’s parents were instructed by the presiding judge, Genevieve Osakwe, to open a bank account in her own name with her mother and the Assistant Chief Registrar (ACR) of the Court as co-signatories before the money could be accessed.

She firmly maintained that the account would be used for the female child’s education and cautioned that every expense made in connection with the account must be accounted for in order to avoid irrational spending, particularly on the side of the parents.

The case was further postponed until August 2, 2023, in order to allow for a report on court order compliance.

The Commissioner for Women and Social care, Ify Obinabo, reportedly obtained custody of the victim from well-known comedian Lord Zeus before turning her over to her family. Since then, Nigerians in the diaspora have reportedly been donating money for the victim’s care, including scholarships.
