The Defence Spikers Volleyball Club of Abuja has clinched the top spot in the men’s Division One National Volleyball League, outplaying Ajase Ipo Volleyball Club of Kwara and Lifecamp Volleyball Club, also from Abuja, who finished second and third, respectively.
In the women’s category, VIP Volleyball Club of Abuja emerged champions of Division One, beating the Federal Fire Service of Abuja and Excelsior Volleyball Club of Abia State to second and third places.
For the National Division Two men’s category, Light Volleyball Club of Abuja triumphed over Bayelsa Volleyball Club and Rhino Volleyball Club of Plateau State to lift the trophy.
This year’s National Division One and Two Volleyball League brought together 34 teams from 20 states, including Abia, Bauchi, Sokoto, Bayelsa, Kwara, Katsina, and the FCT, among others.
Declaring the championship closed, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, said the state’s sponsorship of the league was part of efforts to discover new volleyball talents and channel the energy of Nigerian youths into productive ventures.
Otti, represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, noted that Abia’s massive investment in modern sports infrastructure has positioned the state as a preferred host for national and continental competitions.
The Abia State Director of Sports, George Obioma, congratulated the winners, urging them to build on their victories and aim for stardom. He commended Governor Otti and the Sports Commissioner for ensuring a smooth and successful tournament.
Also speaking, the President of the Nigerian Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Musa Nimrod, represented by Vice President Adamu Tanimu, praised the organizational standard of the event and encouraged continued collaboration between states and the federation to promote grassroots volleyball.
