The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected electric cable vandals and recovered stolen cables during an operation aimed at protecting public infrastructure across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the suspects, Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34, were arrested on June 25, 2026, after operatives from the Kwale Police Station, working alongside a local vigilante group, acted on credible intelligence.
The operation targeted suspected electric cable vandalism along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road, where some individuals were reportedly dismantling and stealing public electricity cables. Police officers quickly moved to the location at about 10:30 a.m. after receiving the information.
On seeing the security team, the suspects allegedly tried to escape. During the operation, one of the men sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while the second suspect remains in police custody.
Officers also recovered the vandalised electric cables, which have been taken into custody as exhibits to support the ongoing investigation into the alleged electric cable vandalism.
Reacting to the development, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, warned criminal elements against attacking government facilities and other public assets. He said the command remains committed to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting anyone involved in crimes against critical infrastructure.
