The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has unveiled a nationwide anti-cultism campaign aimed at tackling cultism, drug abuse, violent crime, and other social vices across Nigeria.
The initiative, known as the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), will be implemented in all State Police Commands as part of efforts to strengthen crime prevention through community involvement and public awareness.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, said the programme focuses on grassroots sensitisation, early intervention, and sustained community engagement to discourage young people from embracing criminal activities.
According to him, the anti-cultism campaign is designed to address the root causes of youth involvement in crime by promoting positive values and encouraging stronger partnerships between the police and local communities.
The initiative will bring together schools, religious organisations, community leaders, parents, and other stakeholders to create a united front against cultism and related offences. The police believe this collaborative approach will help protect young people from criminal influences while improving public safety.
The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) also forms part of the Nigeria Police Force’s broader strategy to strengthen preventive policing and reduce crime through education, awareness, and active community participation.
Police authorities expressed confidence that the anti-cultism campaign will encourage greater public cooperation, promote safer communities, and support ongoing efforts to curb social vices across the country.
