Former Arsenal centre-back Johan Djourou has identified Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal and Ivory Coast as the leading contenders for the Africa Cup of Nations title.

Speaking with Soccernet, the ex-Switzerland international backed the Super Eagles to mount a serious challenge at the tournament, insisting the team “has a card to play.” He also highlighted the steady rise in the quality and competitiveness of African football.

Pressed to name his favourites, Djourou described the race as wide open, pointing to Morocco’s advantage on home soil, Ivory Coast’s status as defending champions, and Senegal’s depth and strength as decisive factors.

“It’s tough,” he said. “Morocco at home will be tricky. I think Nigeria has got a card to play. Ivory Coast as defending champions as well. Senegal are a very strong team.”
