Due to suspected extortion, Lagos State Police Commissioner Idowu Owohunwa has ordered the Divisional Police Officer of the Meiran Police Station to be removed.
According to information obtained, on Saturday, an engineer by the name of Ibrahim Saliu alleged that some officers assigned to the Meiran Police Station in Lagos State had extracted N200,000 from him.

Saliu claims that he and his brother were threatened with jail time by the officers and the DPO of the station if they did not produce the receipts for the phones that were observed with Saliu’s brother.

“The DPO took the iPhones, took off the warranty stickers, and said that my brother and I are robbers with guns and thieves,” the man claimed.

The DPO ordered them to detain us and threatened to have us imprisoned for stealing and armed robbery, according to what I heard the next. We were shocked when we began to beg.
Saliu revealed that in order to ensure their release, he was requested to pay N500,000. They consented to pay N200,000 in cash as instructed by the police.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said that the CP Lagos has ordered the immediate removal of the Meiran Police Station DPO in a tweet on Wednesday, confirming the occurrence.
“CP Idowu Owohunwa has ordered the immediate removal of DPO Meiran due to leadership dereliction and supervisory incompetence,” said Hundeyin.

The orderly room trial for all of the implicated officers has started, and they are currently in Command Headquarters after being recognized.
