There are currently no plans for a fourth Fantastic Beasts film, according to Eddie Redmayne.

The actor has played Newt Scamander throughout the Fantastic Beasts franchise, most recently in last year’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore.

In a new interview with NME, Redmayne was asked if he would like to return to the franchise for a fourth film.

“I mean, there’s nothing that I’m aware of right now,” he replied. “So, as far as I’m aware, it’s not in the cards.”

Redmayne was also asked about whether he will be best known for playing Scamander in his wider career, suggesting: “I have no idea. However, I adore Newt. So, if that’s the case, then I’m overjoyed.”

The franchise has recently been overshadowed by some of the main actors involved, including former star Johnny Depp, who was replaced as Gellert Grindelwald by Mads Mikkelsen in The Secrets Of Dumbledore.

However, Mikkelsen hinted last year that Depp might return to the role after the latter won his court case in the United States against ex-wife Amber Heard.

“Obviously, well, now the course has changed – he won the suit, the court [case] – so let’s see if he comes back. “He could,” he speculated at the Sarajevo Film Festival.

“I’m a big Johnny fan. I think he’s a fantastic actor. He did an excellent job, in my opinion. Having said that, I was unable to replicate it. There was no way I could just copy it because it was so much like him. It would be artistic suicide.

“So we had to come up with something else, something mine, to bridge the gap between him and me.”

There have also been legal issues surrounding star Ezra Miller, who pleaded not guilty to felony burglary charges last year.

J.K. Rowling has also been at the center of controversy in recent years after making comments that some have labeled as transphobic.
