Enyimba head coach, Stanley Eguma, has blamed his side’s poor finishing for their failure to secure maximum points in Sunday’s 0-0 stalemate against Rivers United in Aba.

The People’s Elephant dominated the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 7 clash, creating several clear-cut opportunities but failing to find the back of the net. Despite their relentless pressure, Rivers United, led by former Enyimba boss Finidi George, held firm to snatch a point.

Speaking after the tense encounter, Eguma commended his players for their spirited display but admitted their lack of clinical edge proved costly.

“It was a very interesting game with all the trappings of a grade-A Premier League match,” Eguma said. “My players gave their best, but we were wasteful in front of goal. In the first half, we created several clear chances that could have made the difference, but we just couldn’t take them.”

The draw, however, kept Enyimba comfortably in second place on the NPFL standings as they continue to chase top spot.

The nine-time champions will now shift focus to their next fixture against Kun Khalifat FC, where Eguma will hope his strikers rediscover their scoring touch.
