Nigerian forward Olakunle Olusegun may miss the Super Eagles’ opening World Cup qualifier against Lesotho after encountering a delay in securing his entry visa into South Africa.

Olusegun, one of the 23 players invited by head coach Eric Chelle for the fixtures against Lesotho and Benin Republic, has yet to be cleared for travel as of Wednesday. The development leaves Nigeria with just 21 available players for Friday’s crucial tie.

The Super Eagles have already been hit by the withdrawal of Werder Bremen defender, Felix Agu, who pulled out due to a hamstring injury. Coach Chelle has chosen not to name a replacement, banking on his current squad to deliver.

Should Olusegun fail to get his visa in time, he will join the squad in Uyo ahead of next week’s fixture against Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Nigeria will take on Lesotho at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane, on Friday, as they begin their quest for a spot at the next FIFA World Cup.
