High Chief Ikechi Emenike, an All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Abia State, has put a week’s worth of campaigning on hold.
Emenike decided to put an end to his campaigning in memory of the late PDP governorship candidate, Prof. Uche Ikonne, whom he praised as a learned scholar, deserving gentleman, and politician who earned and deserved every respect.
In order to achieve this, Emenike has postponed the Local Government Campaign Trail that was slated to begin on Friday, January 27, 2023, immediately following the wildly successful launch of his governorship campaign. He promised that the party faithful would be informed as soon as a new date was available.
By all accounts, Prof. Ikonne was a celebrated son of Abia who held important leadership posts, such as rector of the Abia State Polytechnic in Aba and vice chancellor of the Abia State University in Uturu.
Emenike observed that Ikonne’s selection as the ruling party’s governorship candidate despite the competitive field was evidence of his intention to serve Abia State.
He expressed his condolences for the death to the Ikonne family, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the Abia State government, the good people of Abia State as a whole, and the Abia PDP.
The APC governorship candidate prayed for Prof. Ikonne’s soul to rest in peace and pleaded with God to give his family and the state as a whole the strength to endure the loss.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, performed the flagoff for his 2023 governorship campaign on Tuesday, and it was a rousing success with a record-breaking turnout of party members.
