Ibadan witnessed history on Friday as former Oyo State governor, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, was crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The traditional rite of coronation began at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, where Ladoja received the symbolic Akoko leaf, before his crowning at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area.

Governor Seyi Makinde cut short his annual vacation to attend the occasion, underscoring its significance. He is expected to formally present the new Olubadan with the staff and instruments of office at the historic Mapo Hall in a separate ceremony.

The event drew a high-powered crowd, including former Ogun State governor, Gbenga Daniel, and other dignitaries, while heavy security was mounted across the city.

Ladoja’s ascension follows the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on July 7, 2025. Further details on the coronation activities are expected in the coming days.
