Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has admitted that costly defensive mistakes led to his team’s 4–1 humiliation by Sevilla in Sunday’s LaLiga clash.

Despite Marcus Rashford’s early strike, the Blaugrana crumbled under Sevilla’s relentless pressure at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. The defeat pushed Barcelona down to second place, two points adrift of Real Madrid, who now sit atop the league table.

Speaking after the game, Flick acknowledged that Barcelona’s poor first-half performance set the tone for their downfall.

“We are a good team, and the players are coming back. We have to take this positively. I am pleased with the second-half reaction,” he said.

The German tactician dismissed suggestions that Barcelona’s system was to blame, insisting the loss stemmed from individual lapses rather than tactical flaws.

“I don’t think it’s a problem with the system or the strategy. We made big mistakes. Our first-half performance wasn’t good, but in the second, we reacted well,” Flick added.

The manager urged his squad to draw lessons from the setback as they prepare for upcoming fixtures, emphasizing that resilience and focus will be key to reclaiming top spot.
