France secured a 2-0 victory over Morocco in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-finals at Boston Stadium on Thursday to become the first side to book a place in the semi-finals. The result keeps France World Cup hopes alive as the team pushes for a third straight appearance in the tournament final.

The opening half ended without a goal as Morocco stood firm and frustrated the French attack. However, France World Cup ambitions gathered pace after the break. In the 60th minute, Kylian Mbappe produced a brilliant curling finish that finally broke Morocco’s determined defence. The strike also moved the French captain level with Lionel Messi on eight goals in the race for the Golden Boot.

Earlier in the match, Mbappe had missed the chance to give his side the lead from the penalty spot in the 28th minute. Yassine Bounou denied him with a comfortable save, but the forward responded in impressive fashion during the second half to help France World Cup dreams stay on course.

Only six minutes after opening the scoring, Mbappe turned provider. He picked out Ousmane Dembele, who fired home from long range to seal the win and end Morocco’s challenge.

The result also brought back memories of the 2022 World Cup semi-final, when France defeated Morocco by the same 2-0 scoreline. France will now meet the winner of the Spain versus Belgium quarter-final in the last four as the reigning powerhouse continues its pursuit of another place in the World Cup final.

Can France maintain this momentum and lift the FIFA World Cup 2026 trophy?
