Some schoolgirls have been abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata-Mafara local government area of Zamfara.
Residents who spoke with our correspondent said gunmen invaded the community at midnight.
“They attacked some houses along their way, and headed straight to the school,” Abubakar Jangebe, a resident said.
“They took some of the girls and went into the bush. We don’t know what is happening right now.”
It is not clear yet how many of the schoolchildren were abducted, but residents told the PREMIER NEWS that they are about a hundred.
“Many parents are on their way to the school now. There should be a headcount as soon as relevant authorities arrive,” Mohammed Ismail, another resident told TheCable.
When contacted, Muhammed Shehu, police spokesperson in Zamfara, said he will issue a statement on the development later.
The abduction of the schoolgirls comes a week after 27 schoolchildren were abducted by bandits from Government Science College, Kagara in Niger state.
The abductors reportedly rejected a N2.7million ransom offered to them.
