The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has appointed Dr. Michael Ekpai Odey as the new Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

A statement confirming the appointment was issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika.

In a decisive move, Ibas also approved the full reconstitution of the electoral commission, a development that comes amid growing political tension in the state.

The newly constituted RSIEC members are:

• Dr. Michael Ekpai Odey – Chairman

• Mr. Lezaasi Lenee Torbira – Member

• Professor (Dr.) Arthur Nwafor – Member

• Professor Godfrey Woke Mbgudiogha – Member

• Professor (Dame) Joyce Akaninwor – Member

• Dr. (Mrs.) Olive A. Bruce – Member

• Professor Chidi Halliday – Member

The reconstitution of RSIEC is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the state’s political landscape as the electoral body prepares for future local government elections.
