The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated eight senior officers newly promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) during a held at the Nigeria Police Force Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking during the event, the police chief described the decoration ceremony as more than a symbolic adornment, stressing that elevation to the rank of DIG represents decades of dedicated service, professional excellence, and strong leadership within the force.

Disu charged the newly promoted officers to provide strategic direction in policing operations and strengthen discipline across commands. He also urged them to drive institutional reforms and ensure that policing strategies remain responsive to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

According to him, the officers must leverage their experience to deepen intelligence-led policing, enhance operational coordination, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and promote accountability within the force while inspiring public confidence in policing.

The IGP also expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support for the Nigeria Police Force and commended the Police Service Commission for maintaining transparency and professionalism throughout the promotion process.

He further acknowledged the families of the newly decorated officers, noting that their sacrifices and encouragement played a significant role in the officers’ distinguished careers.

The newly promoted officers, alongside the Force Secretary, Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo, now form part of the Force Management Team responsible for strategic leadership and operational direction of the Nigeria Police Force.

Several dignitaries attended the ceremony, including Kabir Alhassan Rurum, Chairman of the House Committee on Airforce; Temitope Ilori, Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS; former Head of Civil Service of the Federation Danladi Kifasi; former Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Engr.
