The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Akwa Ibom Command, reports that in the past three months, it has arrested 60 drug suspects and obtained 11 convictions.
The data were provided by Mrs. Obot Bassey, the NDLEA Commander in Akwa Ibom, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Uyo.

In addition to the 11 convictions obtained, Bassey stated that a number of cases were still outstanding and were being prosecuted at various stages in court.

She argued that, particularly during this holiday season, efforts must be made to raise awareness of the destructive effects that drug usage and illegal trafficking have on young people and society.

“As I told you, we have confiscated almost 150 kg of drugs and psychoactive substances merely in the time frame under consideration, starting in September.

“We have detained almost 60 people, and no less than 11 have been found guilty. Similar to this, over 42 drug suspects received counseling, while over 10 others received rehabilitation.

We’re doing a lot of education, as yesterday when I was with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) warning the Church about the risks of the newest narcotic to hit the market, fentanyl.

It is an opioid and is meant to be administered during surgery to lessen intense pain, according to Bassey.

The official reported that the command also made a seizure of roughly 90kg of amphetamine material over the time period, describing it as extremely lethal and not something that should be available on the street.

To assure a trouble-free Yuletide, Bassey claimed that the command was making every effort to remove all hard drugs and psychotropic chemicals from the streets.

The commander urged everyone to work with the NDLEA to cut down on drug misuse and trafficking in the state. He also made appeals to international organizations, philanthropists, and all other persons.

So, I’m using this platform to urge everyone in Akwa Ibom to keep an eye out for any things that they shouldn’t be consuming and to inform the NDLEA about them.
