If elected, Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, has reaffirmed his commitment to devolving authority and rebuilding the Nigerian federation.

The pledge was made by Mr. Atiku, a former vice president of Nigeria, on Thursday in Abakaliki at a rally in Ebonyi State.

He made it clear that, if elected, his administration would give states more authority while also reorganizing the nation to address the push for real federalism.

He claimed that the South-east region’s residents had been calling for reorganization to give them more authority to handle their local problems. If he wins the upcoming election, restructuring will be a key priority of his administration, he informed the populace.

Mr. Atiku claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is currently in power, had fallen short of its pledge to reorganize the nation, and he urged state residents to vote against the party in the upcoming presidential and National Assembly elections in February.

The former vice president hailed the people for their support of the PDP since the party’s founding in 1999 as he was welcomed by a sizable throng at the Pa Oruta Ngele Township Stadium in Abakaliki.

We mean what we say, and if you give us the backing, we’ll follow through, he said.

Mr. Atiku stated that youngsters and women would play a significant role in his administration and pledged to empower them to unseat established politicians.

Iyorcha Ayu, the PDP’s national chairman, had earlier declared the party to be on a rescue mission and asked the state’s citizens to cast a large number of PDP votes in the upcoming elections.

He urged the region not to let up on their support for the party, saying an Atiku administration will seek to fully restore peace and security in the region.

Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State, and Ifeanyi Okowa, the PDP vice presidential candidate from Delta State, were reportedly present at the event, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
