The academic community at the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, is mourning following a tragic incident that claimed the life of a student during a campus social event. On the morning of Saturday, April 4, 2026, what was intended to be a celebratory freshers’ party for newly admitted students ended in violence, leaving the university community in a state of shock and disbelief.

The victim has been identified as Seyi Simon Oyedeji, a 300-level student at the institution. According to eyewitness accounts and local sources, the atmosphere shifted around 1:00 a.m. when a disagreement broke out within the university hall. What witnesses described as a minor misunderstanding between Oyedeji and another individual quickly escalated beyond verbal sparring. The confrontation reportedly turned into a physical altercation, leading to the fatal outcome that has now left a family and a student body in mourning.

Authorities have identified an 18-year-old suspect, Jafar Musa, in connection with the heated fight. Reports from the scene in Niger State suggest that the violence was sudden, leaving bystanders little time to intervene effectively before the situation reached a breaking point. Following the incident, law enforcement and school officials have been working to gather more details regarding the specific cause of the dispute and the circumstances that allowed a campus celebration to turn so deadly.

This tragic loss highlights growing concerns regarding safety and conflict resolution during large-scale student gatherings. As the investigation continues, the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, faces the difficult task of supporting its students through a period of grief while ensuring that justice is served for the deceased.
