Veteran Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has taken a bold swipe at the Nigerian film industry, blaming its persistent challenges on what he described as deep-rooted internal sabotage.
Speaking in an interview with BBC, the actor did not hold back, declaring that Nollywood is riddled with individuals working against its growth from within.
“If there is one thing I would love to change about Nollywood, it would be to purge saboteurs from the industry,” he said. “The industry is full of saboteurs. They can’t help themselves. They need therapy.”
His remarks highlight growing concerns about internal conflicts and unhealthy competition within Nollywood, an industry widely regarded as one of the largest film producers globally.
Beyond the criticism, Iyke also revealed a deeply personal moment that stands out in his career. He said his proudest achievement as an actor came not from awards or public recognition, but from his son, who once described his performance as that of a “genius.”
The emotional impact of that moment, he disclosed, was overwhelming.
“I had to go into the bathroom to cry,” he admitted, underscoring the profound value he places on family validation over industry accolades.
Iyke also praised fellow Nollywood star Kate Henshaw, naming her as the actress he enjoys working with the most, a nod to her professionalism and on-screen chemistry.
His comments have since sparked conversations about accountability, collaboration, and the need for reform within Nollywood as it continues to evolve on the global stage.
