The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), has transmitted to the National Assembly a supplementary Appropriation Bill for 2023.
On Wednesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila read to members the contents of the bill’s cover letter.
In his cover letter, Buhari stated that the increased demand for N819,536,937,813 for next year is owing to the devastation caused by floods on farmlands and road infrastructure.
According to the President, Nigeria has seen the “worst flood disasters in recent history, resulting in significant loss of farmlands,” and the country now faces food shortages.
He emphasized that the floods had impacted “many roads and bridges” across the federation’s 36 states.
The extra budget was delivered to the federal parliament around 24 hours before the approval of the Appropriations Bill for 2023.
The president only recently sent the Finance Bill 2023 to the National Assembly.
