Kaduna: Troops rescue four more abducted students

The remaining four abducted students of Government Day Secondary School Gwagwada in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been rescued by men of Operation Thunder Strike.

Deputy Director, Public Relations Officer,1 Division Nigerian Army Kaduna State, Col Ezindu Idimah disclosed to newsmen on Monday  that the students have been handed over to their parents at Gurmi village.

It could be recall that 10 students of the named school were abducted on their way to school on October 10; and six of them earlier rescued by the quick intervention of troops while the abductors had escaped into the forest with the four.

Information made known that the rescue was successful following a tip off from a reliable source, troops raided the hideout of the bandits and successfully rescued the remaining 4 students without any injury.

Idimah said during the rescue operation, the bandits ran into the bush with gunshot wounds while abandoning the students after they had engaged the troops in a gun battle.

He said Operation Thunder Strike was a Defence Headquarters operation with joined troops from the Army, Air Force, Police, Civil Defence Corps and State Services.

According to Idimah, the General Officer Commanding 1Division, Maj.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya has saluted the performance of the men and reiterated the commitment of the Division in bringing peace and tranquility to its area of responsibility.
