On a night when Antoine Griezmann shared the club record for most goals scored with Luis Aragones, Atletico Madrid was unable to create history of their own.

In a 3-3 draw with Getafe on Tuesday, Atletico lost a stoppage-time equalizer, ending the club’s record-tying 20-game home winning streak. Griezmann scored twice on Tuesday to level Aragonés on 173 goals.

Getafe overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat 10-man Atletico, who was attempting to win 21 straight games at home in all competitions for the first time ever, thanks to a late penalty kick converted by Borja Mayoral. It has last won 20 games in a row while serving as the host in 2013.

Diego Simeone’s squad suffered its most recent home defeat at the hands of Getafe, a 1-1 league draw in February.

Griezmann remarked, “It’s unfortunate because I wanted the three points in the end.”

In the 44th minute, Griezmann scored his 172nd goal for Atletico, and in the 69th minute, he converted a penalty kick to tie the record for Aragones.

Griezmann’s and Aragonés’ names were sung by Atletico fans after the France forward’s right-footed penalty kick at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium found the top corner.

Simeone said, “Very happy for a player who is a part of the club’s history.” “He is a very important player for us and has always given everything for the club.”

Griezmann required 364 games with the team to achieve his peak, whereas Aragones needed just 370 games.
After 17 games, Atletico moved up to third place in the league rankings thanks to the draw. It shares 35 points with Barcelona, the reigning champion. Girona is still the unexpected leader with 44 points, two ahead of Real Madrid in second position.

Getafe’s goal in the 53rd minute had leveled the score, but Álvaro Morata’s header in the 63rd minute gave the hosts the lead once more. To prevent Atletico from winning the historic match, Ñscar Rodríguez scored Getafe’s second goal in the 87th minute, and Mayoral converted the penalty three minutes into stoppage time to score the equalizer.

Stefan Savic was sent off for two yellow cards in a row, therefore Atletico started the 38th minute down one man.

Atletico was fresh off a Saturday 2-0 setback to Athletic Bilbao. On the same day, Getafe defeated Sevilla 3-0 to record its third consecutive victory across all competitions. With 26 points, the southern Madrid club is in ninth position.

SEVILLA RECOVERS

In coach Quique Sánchez Flores’ debut, Sevilla thrashed rival Granada 3-0 in Andalucia.

Sergio Ramos, Adrià Pedrosa, and Lucas Ocampos all scored goals for Sevilla, who had lost their previous ten league games.

Two days after the Club fired Uruguayan coach Diego Alonso due to the squad’s dismal performance in both the league and the Champions League, Flores was hired on Monday.

VALENCIA SUCCESSES

Valencia defeated Rayo Vallecano 1-0 to snap a five-game losing streak in the Spanish league.

Valencia, who had not won in the league since defeating Granada last month, prevailed in the 61st minute thanks to a goal from Sergi Canós.

Rayo, who has lost eight straight league games, fell to 11th position as Valencia rose to 10th.
