The Lagos State Government (LASG) has started using the new “annual proof of ownership certificate (PoC)” to improve and streamline the state’s car ownership verification procedure.
The announcement was made yesterday during a press conference held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in the Ikeja neighborhood by Engr Abdulhafiz Toriola, permanent secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
According to him, the project complied with all legal standards essential to the network’s transparency, security, and accountability.
“As a responsive administration, we’re going to make a bold move to further the safety and security of people’s lives and property in our beloved state.
The National Road Traffic Regulation 2012, as revised No. 101, Vol. 99, Section 73-(1), which specifies that “there shall be a Proof of Ownership Certificate for all registered vehicles,” is in compliance with this program.
The commission “shall establish and maintain a central database for vehicles and drivers for the federation,” according to Section 73 (1-6), was also introduced.
The federal government has implemented the issuance of an annual proof of ownership certificate for all registered automobiles in order to achieve this goal. Upon successful completion of the appropriate standards and processes, this certificate will serve as official evidence of a vehicle’s lawful owners, he stated.
He claims that the PoC will include important details such as the vehicle’s registration information, such as the license plate, model, and year of production, as well as the owner’s name and address.
The Joint Tax Board, he said, “adopted and made a resolution that proof of ownership certificates (PoC) be issued to motorists on an annual basis throughout the country, having critically reviewed the challenges encountered in ensuring promotion of safety and security of life and property through the issuance of PoC nationally and especially in our dear state.”
