The Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, has confirmed that 76 terrorists, including senior commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), have surrendered following intensified military operations across North-East Nigeria.

In a statement released by the spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, the task force said the latest breakthrough resulted from sustained air and ground offensives backed by intelligence-driven operations. According to him, the heavy military pressure forced the insurgents to abandon their hideouts and surrender to security forces.

The statement revealed that several top ISWAP commanders are among those who gave themselves up. They are currently being held at a secure location, where they are undergoing profiling, debriefing, and other procedures in line with established military protocols. The ISWAP surrender is seen as another important step in weakening the terrorist group’s operational capacity.

Operation Hadin Kai explained that the development highlights the success of its ongoing counter-terrorism campaign. The military said its operations continue to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt command structures, cut off supply routes, and limit the movement of armed groups across the region.

The task force also noted that some of the surrendered fighters arrived with their family members, describing the ISWAP surrender as a sign of the group’s declining morale and shrinking influence. It added that the growing number of defections reflects the increasing effectiveness of military operations in the North-East.

According to the military, its counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria combine sustained combat missions, intelligence gathering, and close cooperation with other security agencies. Officials expressed confidence that this strategy will continue to weaken terrorist organisations, encourage more defections, and support efforts to restore lasting peace across the region. The ISWAP surrender further demonstrates the impact of these coordinated security operations.
