Tunji Wusu –
The Sun-Tribune can confirm with authority that a list of cabinet nominees to be nominated by President Bola Tinubu is ready.
The list, which is the first batch, will be handed to the Senate this week, according to high sources in the halls of power. The list of other nominees will come next.
To help him administer the administration, the president must choose a minister from each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
President-elect Muhammadu Buhari named 44 ministers, including two for some states.
According to information obtained by Sunday Tribune, the first batch is composed primarily of technocrats, in keeping with President Tinubu’s objective to kickstart the economy as soon as feasible.
Some currently serving senators from the North and the South are on the list, according to a Sunday Tribune investigation.
“The president is seeking a performance-driven Federal Executive Council, and as a result, he has recruited a number of highly qualified technocrats to help him carry out the Renewed Hope Agenda for which Nigerians voted for him.
“The president is aware that it is necessary to change the previous procedure for appointing ministers. He has proven that he is a talent scout in Lagos State. You can be confident that he is putting together a strong team to address the issues facing the nation, according to one of the sources the Sunday Tribune spoke with.
One of the technocrats on the list is reportedly a former chief executive officer of a commercial bank from the South West who entered partisan politics in 2020.
A Fellow of Chartered Accountant (FCA), this individual is being hailed as the technocrat who would be tasked with running the Ministry of Finance, where his area of expertise will fit in.
According to sources who spoke anonymously to Sunday Tribune, the president has intervened in the contest over who will represent Kano State as governor after Abdullahi Ganduje and Rabiu Kwankwaso squared off.
According to what was learned, Tinubu granted Buhari the honor of introducing a candidate from Katsina State. It is rumored that the former president sent his successor a name.
It was reported that the Senate will receive the first batch this week as part of his effort to show that he is determined to start the restoration of the economy right away.
Apart from Nyesom Wike, the outgoing governor of Rivers State, who may have been considered the state’s nominee, several of his G-5 camp mates might be included on the list.
It was learned that those who failed in their campaigns for the Senate and were unable to elect replacements in their states might be given consideration for appointments.
“The president is taking his time to choose those who, in his opinion, would advance the nation, notably on the economic front.
A source told the Sunday Tribune that “the first batch of the list is ready,” and that “the list will be finalized at a meeting with the president tomorrow [Monday].”
