|By Chinwendu Nwani – Mr P retirement calls have triggered fresh debate after the Nigerian singer dismissed suggestions that he should quit the music industry because of his age.
Speaking on The Beat FM Lagos, the former P-Square star, popularly known as Mr P, said music has no retirement age. He argued that successful musicians continue performing and creating songs well into later stages of their careers.
The 44-year-old pointed to Michael Jackson as an example, noting that the late pop icon was still preparing for a global tour in his 50s before his death.
Mr P also claimed that those behind the Mr P retirement calls were attempting to discourage him. He argued that similar criticism has targeted other Nigerian stars, including Wizkid.
According to the singer, talent and creativity do not expire with age. He therefore insisted that he has no plans to step away from music despite the growing Mr P retirement calls online.
