The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), bringing the examination process to a close for thousands of candidates across Nigeria and beyond.

According to the examination body, a total of 186,291 candidates registered for the 2026 BECE, which covered 12 subjects. Participants came from all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.

The examination commenced on April 20 and concluded on April 30, 2026. Following the completion of assessment and review procedures, the results were approved during the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the NECO Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr Folake Olatunji David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education and representative of the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes that led to the successful release of the results. She commended the efforts of stakeholders involved in ensuring the smooth conduct of the examination and the timely processing of candidates’ scores.

The meeting was attended by school principals from various parts of the country alongside members of the NECO management team.

In addition to approving the release of the 2026 BECE results, the Award Committee also fixed July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE re-sit examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

The re-sit examination is designed for candidates who recorded conditional deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies or both subjects. The exercise will give affected students another opportunity to meet the requirements for certification and secure admission into Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) without having to repeat an academic session.

The release of the 2026 BECE results marks an important milestone for candidates preparing to transition into the next stage of their secondary education.
