Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has denied claims that he pursued his estranged wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, for marriage.

The lawmaker, reacting to growing public criticism over his six-year marriage to the actress, insisted that Regina’s mother, Rita Daniels, initiated the union and personally brought her to him for marriage.

The controversy erupted after Regina Daniels accused the senator of domestic violence and announced that she was no longer interested in the marriage. In response, Nwoko accused her of substance abuse and maintained that she needed rehabilitation.

Their public exchange drew outrage across social media, with many Nigerians, including celebrities, accusing the senator of marrying Regina when she was still a minor and demanding his resignation from the Senate.

Addressing the issue in a statement released by his Communication and Technical Action Team, Nwoko dismissed the allegations, clarifying that Regina was 19 at the time of their marriage, not 17 as widely claimed.

“For clarity, Regina Daniels was born on October 10, 2000. If she has been married to me for six years, that means she married at 19 and not 17. The public witnessed her family giving her away in marriage,” Nwoko stated. “There were witnesses to the fact that her mother personally brought her to me. I never went after her.”

The senator’s remarks have reignited discussions on age, consent, and accountability in celebrity marriages.
