By Babatunji Wusu| The NNPC Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of NNPC Ltd., has commissioned and handed over a fully installed 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, in Kano State.
The advanced medical equipment is expected to improve the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions, including orthopaedic disorders, neurological diseases, trauma-related injuries, musculoskeletal problems and gynaecological conditions.
According to a statement issued by NNPC Ltd., the intervention forms part of the organisation’s commitment to expanding healthcare access and strengthening medical infrastructure in Nigeria. Before the donation, many patients requiring specialised MRI services often faced long-distance travel, extended waiting periods and higher healthcare costs.
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Kano, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., represented by the Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, Mrs Emmanuella Arukwe, said the project aligns with the company’s broader goal of supporting national development through impactful social investments.
“At NNPC Limited, we are intentional about ensuring that our social investments are impactful, sustainable, and beneficial to the communities we serve. Through the NNPC Foundation, we will continue to implement interventions that create measurable social value across Nigeria,” she said.
The MRI scanner donation was described as a timely intervention that will help address healthcare challenges linked to inadequate infrastructure, limited equipment and the growing demand for specialised medical services.
Also speaking, Mrs Sophia Mbakwe, Executive Vice President, Business Services at NNPC Ltd., represented by Mrs Rose Okonkwo, said the company remains committed to improving lives through sustainable programmes that support critical sectors.
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by Health Commissioner Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, praised the initiative, describing it as a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the region.
The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr Isa Nurudeen, expressed gratitude for the MRI scanner donation, noting that it would greatly enhance diagnostic capacity and improve patient care.
