-NNPCL Slashes Fuel Price Amid Dangote Refinery’s Ex-Depot Cut
-Motorists in Abuja Welcome New Adjustment as Filling Stations Begin Review
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has slashed the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at its retail outlets in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
A DAILY POST correspondent who monitored the development on Saturday observed that the price of petrol at NNPCL filling stations has been reviewed downward from N950 to N935 per litre.
Motorists across the city have begun confirming the new price adjustment, hailing the move as a relief in the face of rising living costs.
“I observed the drop in the fuel price to N935 per litre on Saturday morning. It is a welcome development,” said Abdullahi Hashim, a resident of Kubwa.
Bukola Adewole, another motorist, shared a similar view: “I think I first saw this new price adjustment in Town, Wuse Zone 4 area, on Friday. NNPCL filling station at Kubwa Expressway is just reflecting it.”
The price cut follows Dangote Refinery’s announcement of a reduction in its ex-depot petrol price from N865 to N835 per litre. The 650,000 barrels-per-day facility had earlier directed its partners — including MRS and AP filling stations — to sell fuel between N890 and N920, depending on the location.
Despite the adjustment, MRS filling stations in Abuja have not dispensed fuel since Wednesday, April 16, 2025, raising concerns among residents.
While the NNPCL has yet to release an official statement on the price drop, the move aligns with efforts to cushion the effects of fluctuating fuel prices on Nigerian consumers.
Analysts say the adjustments by both NNPCL and Dangote Refinery may signal the start of a gradual reduction in petrol prices across the country — especially if more players follow suit in the coming days.
