Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, has revealed that Ondo State received about ₦9.9 billion under the Federal Government’s Household Prosperity and Empowerment Cash Transfer Programme. He shared this update during a stakeholders’ meeting with beneficiaries in Ifedore Local Government Area.

The cash transfer programme forms part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and focuses on supporting poor and vulnerable households across Nigeria. According to Doro, more than nine million households have already benefited nationwide, covering all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

He explained that each household receives ₦75,000, paid in three instalments. In Ondo State alone, about 396,671 households have benefited across different phases, with total disbursement reaching ₦9.9 billion. He said the ongoing visit aims to verify that funds reach the right people and to measure how the cash transfer programme improves living conditions.

Doro raised concern about low public awareness, noting that many eligible Nigerians still lack proper information or access to the scheme. He called for clearer communication and stronger transparency to improve delivery and trust in the cash transfer programme.

Officials also met selected beneficiaries to confirm payments and gather feedback that will shape future improvements. Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, praised the initiative, describing it as vital support for struggling families. He stressed the need for closer cooperation between federal and state governments and disclosed that the South-West has received about ₦62 billion under the scheme.

The governor also pointed to challenges with National Identification Number registration, urging better coordination to prevent payment delays.

Do you think this programme is reaching those who need it most?
