Former South-East Spokesman to President Bola Tinubu, Denge Josef Onoh, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to immediately suspend its members in the Rivers State House of Assembly allegedly involved in moves to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
Onoh made the demand in a statement issued to journalists on Sunday in Abuja, condemning the renewed impeachment effort as an abuse of legislative authority.
The Chairman of the Forum of Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly described the action by the Rivers Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, as “legislative rascality” and a deliberate attempt to undermine constitutional order and democratic governance in the state.
He faulted the impeachment bid, reportedly anchored on allegations of gross misconduct, including the non-presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill. Onoh argued that the claims ignore the existence of a nationally approved budget framework already in force until August 2026, following earlier emergency provisions.
According to him, the current move represents the third attempt to remove Governor Fubara since 2023, with the latest escalation occurring in January 2026.
Onoh further noted that the lawmakers spearheading the impeachment defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on December 5, 2025, only days before Governor Fubara also joined the ruling party.
He said the inclusion of the deputy governor in the impeachment process exposes a coordinated plan to unlawfully take control of the state government.
“The simultaneous targeting of the governor and his deputy exposes a clear agenda to seize power through the back door. The APC must act decisively by suspending all its lawmakers involved in this act of legislative rascality,” Onoh stated.
