Naomi Osaka delivered an impressive performance on Thursday to secure her place in the semi-finals of the Bad Homburg Open, a key warm-up event ahead of Wimbledon.
The four-time Grand Slam champion needed just 59 minutes to defeat Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2, 6-2 in a dominant display on grass. The victory sends the Japanese star into the final four of the tournament only days before the start of Wimbledon.
Despite suffering an early break of serve in the opening set, Naomi Osaka responded immediately and took complete control of the match. The world number 15 overwhelmed her Russian opponent with a remarkable run of eight consecutive games. During that stretch, she also claimed 15 straight points, underlining her growing confidence on the grass surface.
The sixth seed comfortably secured the first set before racing into a 3-0 advantage in the second. Although Alexandrova, ranked 19th in the world, managed to hold her next two service games, she could not halt Osaka’s momentum. The former world number one remained composed and wrapped up the contest in less than an hour.
The Bad Homburg Open continues with several other quarter-final matches. Fourth seed Karolina Muchova is set to face Denmark’s Clara Tauson, while American Emma Navarro will take on Romania’s Elena-Gabriel Ruse for a place in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, China’s Wang Xinyu, ranked 52nd in the world, has already secured a semi-final berth. Her progress came after world number eight Elina Svitolina withdrew from the tournament on Wednesday due to exhaustion.
With Wimbledon fast approaching, Naomi Osaka appears to be building momentum at the perfect time. Her commanding victory in the Bad Homburg Open will provide a significant confidence boost as she prepares for another challenge on tennis’ biggest grass-court stage.
